Chapter 10 - The Truth

"MUM!! DAD!!" I cried

I ran into the cell and hugged them as gently as I could, they looked horrible. They had obviously taken a worse beating than I did and they looked like they were starving. Their faces were sunken in and their clothes were so baggy.

"What have they done to you?! Are you guys okay?"

"Yea...I guess..." Dad said, uncertainty in his voice.

"Lexi, hunny," my mum said looking at me with fear in her eyes "I have something I need to tell you, that I have been kept to myself, even after all the torture we have gone through. Our family use to be deeply involved with the Italian Mafia, based out of Venice, in fact they use to be the leaders until selling to Ricardo's father. While being locked up here I have finally remembered why I moved to Appaloosa Plains. Some hit-men from the Mafia showed up and executed everyone in our family except Aunt Gloria and I, we were hiding. We ended up running out of the house before they ended up blowing it up causing us to hit some rocks on the cliff erasing every memory in our minds of what had just happened.

"Mum," I said quickly

"No, please no interrupting," She said holding up her index finger," I remember one face, one person that stood out from the rest, and he was the one that initiated the executions and blew up our house. It was Ricardo and no I am not mistaken. I don't know what they have done to bring my memory back but it has come back. If you ever get out of here before us you need to find a lady in Starlight Shores, her name is Calypso. She has all of our mafia documents hidden away. All you need to say when you meet her is 'The sun is shining' and she will respond with 'But the ice is slippery.' But I want you to forget about that for now, just until you get out of here. Right now you need to tell Ricardo everything I have told you, except the info about Calypso. You also need to tell him that you know that your Great Great Nonna knew something that her mum died for but you don't know what it was."

"Okay...but..."

"Tell him Lexi! I don't know how much longer we can last here. Please!" Mum said beginning to cry "If we don't make it out of here please remember that we love you so much and we are so proud of the amazing life you have made for yourself!"

"Let's go," Kayla said walking up to the cell door.

"I promise I will do everything you told me to do mum," I whispered to her and dad before giving them another hug "You will still be here no matter what, I wont let them kill you! I can't go on not believing that!"

As I walked out of the cell and back upstairs with Kayla, my head was swarming with everything my mum had just told me. It was hard to believe that our family was involved with something like this, especially something so dangerous!

"Sit here," Kayla said, snapping me out of my thoughts.

As I sat down I noticed Anika just sitting there, staring at me. I could not figure out what her problem was, she was looking at me like I had just killed her pet or something.

I was about to ask her what her problem was when Ricardo walked in.

"So," Ricardo said sitting across from me "Do you have any information for me?"

I began telling Ricardo everything my mum told me (except about Calypso.) I didn't want to tell him what she remembered but I did it only because my mum had told me to.

"I know that my Great Great Nonna knew something that her mum died for," I said, noting that Ricardo perked up a bit "But I do not know what it was, I swear I don't!"

"It's about damn time!" Anika said "I knew that old rotting bitch knew something!"

"Don't you dare!" I said glaring at her.

"Calm down ladies, now!" Ricardo said, motioning for Anika to follow him.

"I'm sorry babe," Anika said as she leaned against the fireplace "But this bitch and her family just piss me off. Can't we just finish them off and be done?"

"No we can't, not yet," Ricardo said, unaware that I was listening to everything they were saying "We need to find all of their paperwork first. That paperwork is the only thing that could destroy us. Everything would be taken away from us and given to....well, her." Ricardo said pointing over his shoulder to me, causing me to look away quickly.

"Wow!: I thought to myself "I have to get out of here and find Calypso!"

As Ricardo, Anika, and Kayla came back to the couches I pretended that I did not hear what theyw ere talking about.

"Go make something to eat and nothing else," Ricardo said looking at me with a stern face.

I reluctantly went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. Even though I didn't want to have to cook for them, I was starving. I plated some nearly raw steaks with extra blood gravy for them to eat, made me shudder though.

Then I found ingredients for Lobster Thermidor, which I quickly mixed together.

While the Lobster Thermidor was cooking I quietly searched the kitchen for something to help me escape or kill these horrible vampires. As I ran my hand along the inside of one of the drawers, I suddenly felt something extremely sharp. What I felt was an ancient looking knife, it was the only knife in the entire kitchen, and it seemed to have been carefully hidden on purpose. Before Ricardo could catch me with the knife, I hid it in my dress and then took the plates to the dining room.

"Sit and eat," Ricardo demanded as he, Kayla, and Anika sat down.

I sat down and ate, my meal was absolutely delicious. After dinner I was led back to my cell and locked in once again.
